WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Three Waynesboro teenagers were injured while walking home from school Friday afternoon when they were struck by a car just a block from Waynesboro Area Senior High School, according to police.

At about 2:45 p.m., a Subaru driven by Zoltan Mandy of Waynesboro was traveling east on East Second Street when it failed to stop at the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and collided with a Chevrolet truck driven by Ricky Deshong of Waynesboro that was traveling west, Waynesboro Police Chief Mark King said.

After colliding with the truck, the Subaru accelerated onto the sidewalk and struck a group of students who were walking near the intersection, King said. The vehicle came to rest after striking a home at 101 Myrtle Ave., King said.

Officers at the scene found a female student lying in the yard at 101 Myrtle Ave., King said.

Penn State Hershey LifeLion service airlifted her to Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center as a precaution, King said. The other students, both males, had leg injuries, he said.

Rescue workers took Mandy and one of the male students to Waynesboro Hospital, King said. The student was treated and released, he said.

Deshong was not injured in the accident, King said.

No information was available on the other male student.

Waynesboro Area School District Assistant Superintendent Evan Williams issued a message to parents Friday, informing them of the accident.

Parents of the students involved also were notified, according to the statement.

No names or ages for the juveniles were released by police.

Williams said counselors will be at the school Monday for students.
