W.Va. crash victim identified as Kearneysville man

BARDANE, W.Va. — The driver killed early Sunday in an accident and car fire on Wiltshire Road has been identified as a Kearneysville, W.Va., man, West Virginia State Police said Tuesday.

The identity of Stephen Ray Torres, 18, of Logans Run Drive was confirmed following an autopsy in Charleston, W.Va., Trooper S.R. Smith of the Charles Town detachment said in a news release.

The accident took place early Sunday in the 700 block of Wiltshire Road, police said. A southbound, black Volkswagen car crossed lanes and hit a tree off the eastern edge of the road. The vehicle flipped over and caught fire.

Trooper Smith arrived at the scene at 3:37 a.m. and discovered the driver was trapped inside, police said. He called for firefighters and emergency medical technicians.

Police said no one else was in the vehicle.
