MYERSVILLE, Md. - Mrs. Candace Gail Byrum, 52, of Myersville, passed away Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the devoted wife of Russell A. Byrum for over 21 years.

Born Sept. 2, 1957, in the District of Columbia, she was the daughter of Grace E. Crandall and the late Lewis W. Crandall.

She was a 1974 graduate of Gov. Thomas Johnson High School, obtained an Associate of Science degree in early childhood education from Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Fla., and a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Shepherd College. Over the years, she worked as a preschool teacher in Gainesville, Fla., and as a counselor at the Maryland Sheriff's Youth Ranch and at the WCARC. She was also a homemaker and stay-at-home mother raising two beautiful daughters. She loved to bake, and was a wonderful cook who aspired to write cookbooks. She enjoyed summer trips to the beach with her family, and especially enjoyed spending time at the lake at Greenbrier State Park.

Besides her loving husband and mother, she is survived by daughters Heather S. Willis and Kathryn A. Byrum; sisters Caren Babst and husband Richard Babst of Hagerstown, Collette Gibbard of Hagerstown, and Carol Crandall and husband Ted Cady of Myersville; one brother, Lewis Crandall Jr. of Middletown, Md.; cousin Louise Wright of Alexandria, Va.; sisters-in-law Jo Ann Byrum, Susan Byrum and Judy Frank; brother-in-law Roger Byrum; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives.

Candace will be fondly remembered by her dear friends Debbie Markey, Terri Schooley and Lori Bartles.

A memorial service is to be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Myersville, with Pastor John H. Dean officiating. A reception will take place immediately after the service at the church. Direct cremation has been chosen and entrusted to Going Home Cremation Services.
