Funk, Piper re-elected to Tuscarora School Board
MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Tuscarora School Board members Larry E. Funk and Donnie Piper were re-elected to four-year terms in Tuesday’s municipal election, according to complete, but unofficial results from the Franklin County (Pa.) Election Board.
They had 1,830 votes and 1,723 votes, respectively.
Also elected to four-year terms were retired teacher Harold Hunsberger and banker Erich Hawbaker, receiving 1,562 votes and 1,456 votes, respectively.
Tom Black, of Diehls Woods Road, was unopposed for a two-year term and received 2,061 votes.
Funk, Piper, Hunsberger, Hawbaker and Black will join sitting board members Clifford Smith, Guy Hollenshead, Daryl Hunsberger and Daniel Reeder.
All the candidates were registered Republicans, although Jon Heebner, of Parnell Drive, appeared as a Democrat on ballots because he won that party’s nomination in the spring primary election. He was the only candidate not elected.
The board will be overseeing the $17 million renovation of James Buchanan High School in the coming year. Voters in September 2008 rejected a $35 million renovation proposal, sending the board back to the drawing board for a scaled-back plan.
