Early voter turnout in Franklin Co. appears low

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Voter turnout across Franklin County, Pa., for Tuesday's municipal elections appeared to be low in the first half of the day.

Voters across the county will determine new and returning members of school boards, borough councils and boards of township supervisors.

Franklin County Commissioners Chairman Bob Thomas said he visited polls in Chambersburg, Antrim Township and Washington Township by 2 p.m.

Washington Township, a municipality with a contested Waynesboro Area School Board seat, had notably higher turnout than the other areas, but Thomas said he expects overall turnout will be lower than the 25 percent he predicted.

"Your vote means more on a day like this than a day with 90 percent or 80 percent turnout," he said, saying polls will remain open until 8 p.m.

Everything was running smoothly without any reported problems at polls, Thomas said.
