Smithsburg’s undefeated regular season earned the Leopards the No. 1 seed for the Maryland Class 1A West volleyball playoffs, while South Hagerstown earned the No. 2 seed in 3A West.
In Class 1A West, Hancock (4-11) will travel to Williamsport (5-10) for a first-round match Friday at 6 p.m. All other Washington County teams have byes to the quarterfinals Monday.
Smithsburg (14-0) will face the Hancock-Williamsport winner at 6 p.m., while No. 4-seed Clear Spring (11-3) will host No. 5-seed Boonsboro (7-7). The winners will play in the semifinals on Nov. 11.
The bottom half of the 1A West bracket consists solely of teams from Garrett and Allegany County, with Fort Hill (13-1) the No. 2 seed and Mountain Ridge (11-3) the No. 3 seed.
In Class 3A West, South Hagerstown (7-7) earned the No. 2 seed and will host the winner of the first-round match between Clarksburg and Einstein.
In Class 2A West, North Hagerstown (10-4) is the No. 4 seed and will host the winner of the first-round match between Winters Mill and Wheaton.
