Oh! Ew! Awwww!

The bear will probably elicit an "oh."

The beetle and skink will most likely draw an "ew" or "eh."

The bunny and chick are sure to result in "awwwwww."

The turtle and the salamander might just, too.

We frequently feature readers' photos on this weekly photo page. So we're looking for the best recent photographs from the Tri-State area.

This is a chance for amateur photographers to share their best images.

Send us a variety of subjects. Avoid family portraits, posed scenes or news photos. And please help us avoid repetition. We get lots of photos of deer, flowers, butterflies, and sunsets, so offer something different.

Quality is key. Sharp, large images look best.

Close-up photos show detail better. If the subject is small, get close or use a telephoto lens to make the subject large in the photo.

Digital photos must be sharp, at least 6 inches wide and have a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi). Files should be in JPEG or TIF formats and sent as e-mail attachments.

Please do not submit images with writing on them, and if there is a datestamp, try to remove it.

To submit a photo for the Gallery page, use one of these options:

Drop it off at The Herald-Mail office at 100 Summit Ave. in Hagerstown.

Mail it to The Herald-Mail Co., c/o Lifestyle, P.O. Box 439, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Send it via e-mail to julieg@herald-mail.com with "submitted photo" in the subject line.

With the photo, tell us your name, a daytime phone number and a brief description of the story behind the photo.

If you want your mailed photo returned, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Butch Moser said his wife, Laura, snapped this picture after the insect crawled out of her backpack in July while hiking on the Appalachian Trail near Harpers Ferry, W.Va., he e-mailed. The Hagerstown couple identified the bug, which was 2 to 3 inches long, as an Eastern eyed click beetle.
