Angels send Adenhart to Salt Lake City in Class AAA

LOS ANGELES — Dustin Moseley won the battle to be the Los Angeles Angels’ fifth starter, as the team optioned 21-year-old Nick Adenhart — a 2004 Williamsport High School graduate — to its minor league camp on Saturday.

Adenhart will start the season at the Angels’ Triple-A affiliate in Salt Lake City.

Adenhart was considered a candidate for the Angels’ fifth starting spot, which opened up because Kelvim Escobar and John Lackey are battling injuries.

In six appearances this spring, Adenhart went 2-1 with a 5.16 ERA in 22 2/3 innings. He allowed 27 hits and six walks while striking out 15.

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart, a Williamsport High graduate, delivers a pitch during a spring training game against Seattle. Adenhart was called up Wednesday from Class AAA and is scheduled to start tonight's game against Oakland.
